XFCE 4.20, Wayland (labwc), GDM, Linux Lite 7.2

As XFCE has drawn ever closer to full Wayland support with XFCE 4.20 I decided to begin testing its functionality on Linux Lite 7.2. To get XFCE 4.20 I used the Xubuntu experimental PPA.

https://launchpad.net/~xubuntu-dev/+archive/ubuntu/experimental

I was pleasantly surprised by a smooth and successful installation. Afterwards I used Lite’s package manager to install labwc which went smoothly as well. Next I installed GDM and made it the default. I rebooted and logged into Xfce Session (Wayland) and all went well.

The LibreWolf web browser worked perfectly.

Microsoft Edge performed nicely which is important to me with all the cross platform networking stuff I get involved in.

As expected Lite Tweaks was problematic with some functions working and others failing and only displayed under Wayland with sudo -E. Rather than deal with the root graphical issue I’m leaning toward building it’s functions into an option menu and running from the CLI instead, though that will take some time. Zenity will probably not be a future option anyway.

System Info worked fine.

Alacritty functioned perfectly.

Remmina worked fine only losing a tiny part of the GUI (disconnect option at the bottom of the SFTP window) but using the X button to close the window raised a dialogue to disconnect.

GDM worked perfectly.

Package manager (synaptic) worked and displayed fine from the terminal with sudo -E as did Lite-Updates, Lite-Sources and Lite-Software.
