Test Continuation
As you can see below, Lite-Updates runs from the terminal with sudo -E with no reported graphical errors. The correct windows appear and populate correctly when invoked. There seems to be no real need to change the code other than the environment control.
The beautiful new GIMP 3.0 has been released with wayland compatibility so I decided to test it as well. I installed flatpak and then installed the flatpak version. Everything that I tried worked including the icon population.
There are many new features and improvements like the welcome screen personalize tab. See the link below from the release notes for a full list. For anybody running a printing business there is still no full CMYK support but with a couple of plugins it can be managed.
